Depth of Field: image space in front of and behind the plane of focus that appears acceptably sharp in the photograph
Download: transfer of data form one device to another such as camera to computer
DPI: dots per inch; referring to printing resolution
Electronic Flash: device with a glass or plastic tube filled with gas that creates an intense flash of light
Exposure: when light enters the camera and reacts with sensitized medium
File Format: form in which digital images are stored and recorded; JPEG, RAW
Filter: to control how certain wavelengths of light are recorded
Flare: unwanted light streaks or rings that appears in the viewfinder, on the recorded image, or both
Focal Plane: plane on which a lens forms a sharp image

Vocabulary 1
AE: when camera measures light and makes the adjustment necessary to create proper image density on sensitized media
AF:
electronic flash unit that reads light reflected off a subject, then
shuts itself off as soon as ample light has reached the sensitized
medium
Apeture: opening in the lens that allows light to enter the camera
Artificial Light: usually refers to any light source that doesn't exist in nature, such as fluorescent lighting
Ambient Light: the amount of illumination at a given location that applies to natural and artificial light sources but not those supplied specifically for photography
Backlight: light that projects toward the camera from behind the subject
Bulb: camera setting that allows the shutter to stayopen as long as the shutter release is depressed
Color Balance: average overall color in a reproduced image
Contrast: the difference between two or more tones in terms of luminance, density, darkness
Cropping: process of extracting a portion of the image area
