The PDN PhotoPlus International Conference and Expo is the largest photography and imaging show in North America. At this At this year’s PDN PhotoPlus Expo talks about the topic “Photography and the Struggle for a Better World” with Ed Kashi (VII), Ron Haviv, Glenn Ruga, Amy Yenkin, and Michelle Bogre speaking on the seminar panel.  The topic of discussion centers on photojournalism making a difference in our world.
There are many photographers worldwide who aim to bring the differences of our world to a better work and inspire change, regardless of the changing media landscape. With the technology advancing and the universal access to the internet, it has become easier to spread ideas and awareness. But they have to compromise with the commercial photojournalism market.

DSLR Nighttime Photography Notes



  • Turn off the flash. If you leave it on, it will cause on over-lit foreground with a dark background
  • A tripod will eliminate movement when trying to use long exposures. If your tripod is flimsy, hang a heavy bag from the center to weigh it down
  • Use the timer in order to eliminate shake when pressing the shutter button
  • Use long exposure in order to get trails of light from cars or any other moving lit objects.
  • Using long exposures drain your battery so be sure to have spares
  • A large depth of field is needed if shooting buildings but not a lot of light will be let into the lens
  • Up your ISO, it will allow you to shoot in lower lit areas
  • Experimenting with these two modes, A / AV allows you to choose the aperture, and S / TV allows you to choose the shutter speed
